Despite a late scare Rangers picked up their fifth win in a row to remain seven points behind league leaders Glasgow City with a 2-1 win over 10-player Hibernian.

Rangers had the first real chance of the game after 25 minutes when Mia McAulay's header struck the post and was eventually cleared by the Hibs defence.

Just minutes later Hibs were dealt a major blow and reduced to 10 players when Kirsten Reilly was shown a red card for a challenge on Laura Berry.

Rangers got the breakthrough with just five minutes left in the half when Katie Wilkinson turned in Eilidh Austin's cross.

May Cruft doubled Rangers' advantage right on half time when she fired low into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Despite being a player down Hibs continued to try and work their way back into the game but the visitors failed to carve out any clear cut opportunities.

Kathleen McGovern, returning after two months out with injury, pulled one back for the visitors in second half stoppage time when her strike slipped through goalkeeper Jenna Fife's hands and into the back of the net.

The result leaves Rangers second in the SWPL table, joint on points with Celtic in third while champions Hibs are now 16 points off the top.

Saoirse Noonan doubled the visitors' advantage just before the break when she smashed in from close range.

Glasgow City eased aside Partick Thistle to remain top of the SWPL with a 3-0 win at Petershill Park.

Amy Anderson got the league leaders up and running after a quarter of an hour when she bundled home Lisa Evans' cross.

Anderson grabbed City's second in the first half when she latched onto a loose ball in the Partick Thistle box to tap beyond Jeni Currie in goals.

Natalia Wrobel got the third goal for the league leaders, the forward drove into the box and slotted the ball into the back of the net.

The result leaves City comfortably clear at the top of the SWPL table while Thistle remain in the bottom half.
