Moment 12-year-old calls 999 from motorway after steering unconscious mum's car to safety

This is the moment a 12-year-old boy called 999 after calmly steered a speeding car into a central reservation when his mother fainted behind the wheel.

Nicola Crump was travelling from Wales to the Birmingham Christmas markets with her son when she lost consciousness, with her foot causing the car's speed to increase to nearly 60mph (97 km/h).

Zac, who was sitting in the passenger seat, took control and guided the car off the A40 near Ross-on-Wye on 14 December.

He switched off the engine, called emergency services, and calmly told the call handler the pair's location, West Mercia Police said.

Zac has been given an bravery award for saving his mum's life, and after receiving the award, he said: "Even to this day, I don't see it as a big deal but from other people's perspective it is."
